The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is facing a critical moment ahead of its annual general meeting (AGM), originally scheduled to be held in Dhaka on July 24. The meeting, which carries the responsibility of finalising the venue and schedule of the 2025 Asia Cup, has been marred by uncertainty, with members expressing reluctance to attend due to the ongoing political tensions in Bangladesh.

ACC AGM Venue Likely To Shift From Dhaka

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is reportedly unwilling to send its top officials to the Bangladesh's capital. The decision stems from rising political instability in the region, which has raised both diplomatic and security concerns. According to Gaurav Gupta of the Times of India, the ACC is now considering shifting the meeting from Dhaka, although no official confirmation has been made.

Hosting the AGM is traditionally rotated among member nations, and this year, it was BCB's turn. However, officials from India and even Sri Lanka are reportedly hesitant to attend the meeting in person.

However, Aminul Islam earlier dismissed the reports suggesting that the meeting had been relocated, insisting that 'everything is on track' and Dhaka remains the official venue. But behind closed doors, ACC officials are exploring alternatives, with Dubai emerging as a potential neutral ground.

Asia Cup 2025 Fate Hangs On ACC Meeting

The Asia Cup, one of the most prestigious tournaments in the Asian cricketing calendar, will be the centrepiece of the AGM discussions. With broadcast deals, logistical planning, and team schedules at stake, the outcome of this meeting will have significant implications.

Although there is a possibility that BCCI officials may attend virtually, their physical absence could also diminish India’s direct influence.

The ACC meets just once annually, and this year's gathering carries more weight than usual, with the Asia Cup’s 2025 edition yet to be formally confirmed.

Having said all this, all eyes remain on whether the ACC will stick to its Dhaka plans or opt for a neutral venue to ensure full member participation and a smooth resolution to the Asia Cup’s future.
