Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting stalwart Virat Kohli scored the first century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season against RR in Jaipur earlier today. However, his low strike rate and relatively slower flow of innings drew criticism from fans on the internet as RCB finished with a below par score.

In a sport where opinions run rampant and scrutiny is intense, even the most celebrated players aren't immune to criticism, as evidenced by the recent backlash faced by Virat Kohli following his century in the IPL 2024 season.

With the relevance of his T20 career under scrutiny, Virat Kohli rescued RCB with a remarkable century against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur earlier today. After putting up 100+ runs with Faf du Plessis for the opening stand, Kohli continued to bat deep and exploded late to finish with a 72 ball 113 runs innings.

Twitter unhappy with Virat Kohli's slow innings

Virat Kohli brought up his 8th IPL century in 67 balls but fetched an unwanted record. His ton turned out to be the joint slowest in IPL's history.

Soon, fans on the X platform called out Kohli's slow strike rate, with many referring to the knock as selfish. Some fans accused Virat Kohli of prioritising his personal milestone over the team's needs, thus resulting in a below par total.

While Kohli's innings may have lacked the fireworks typically associated with T20 cricket, it's essential to consider the context in which it unfolded.

With wickets falling at the other end and the team in a precarious position, Kohli opted for a more measured approach, aiming to anchor the innings and ensure that his team reached a competitive total of 183 runs at the end of the first 20 overs.
