The two-time winners, West Indies, have joined India, South Africa, and Australia as the fourth team to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024's Super 8 round.

South Africa was the first to secure a spot in the Super 8s, followed by Australia. India qualified from Group A after achieving their third consecutive win against the USA, and now, West Indies have secured their place after a 13-run victory over New Zealand.

With this win, West Indies became the first team to qualify from Group C. The Men in Maroon began their campaign with a narrow victory over Papua New Guinea, followed by a dominant win against Uganda, and now a solid performance against New Zealand. The chances for the Black Caps to progress to the Super 8s are now extremely slim, needing a miracle to advance.

West Indies, sent in to bat first, found themselves struggling at 76 for 7 in the 13th over. Sherfane Rutherford led a remarkable comeback, forming crucial partnerships with Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd and Akeal Hosein to rescue the innings.

Rutherford's unbeaten 68 off 39 balls propelled his team to a competitive total of 149, with the last two overs yielding 37 runs.

In their chase of 150, New Zealand lost Devon Conway early, but Finn Allen hit a few powerful shots to maintain the required run rate. However, the West Indies struck back, reducing New Zealand to 63 for 5 by the 11th over. Glenn Phillips fought hard with a 40 off 33 balls but lacked support from the other batters. Despite Mitchell Santner's three sixes in the final over, it was too late for the Black Caps, who finished on 136 for 9.
