Sri Lanka were scheduled to play against Nepal in the 23rd match of the T20 World Cup 2024. This match was scheduled to be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.

However, according to the latest developments, the game has been abandoned due to the rain. It had been raining in Florida for a few hours before the match, and plenty of puddles formed on the ground. Though the rain stopped around the toss time, the field was not ready to get the action going. The rain resumed soon, and the match officials decided there was no point in waiting for the rain to stop and called the match off.

Qualification Scenario in Group D

This result works in favour of South Africa. They have now qualified for the Super Eight stage and have become the first team to do so. Notably, South Africa have won all their three games and are currently at the top of the Group D.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka's qualification is in danger now. First, they must win their remaining match against the Netherlands by a significant margin. If they manage to do so, they will have to hope that the Bangladesh vs Netherlands game gets abandoned due rain, and Bangladesh lose their match against Nepal.

Nepal will have to win both of their remaining games and hope the Netherlands will lose their two matches.
