Sherfane Rutherford, the man of the moment, for West Indies turned things around as he came with a remarkable rescue act that allowed the West Indies to recover from 76-7 to end up with 149/9 in 20 overs against New Zealand in Match 26 of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday. 

After winning the toss, New Zealand bowlers provided a much-needed start and made things worse for the Indies as they lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to maintain momentum.

But it seemed that Sherfane Rutherford was playing at a completely different pitch as he showcased some explosive power-hitting and his quickfire 68 runs in 39 balls helped West Indies reach 149.

Rutherford along with Akeal Hosein got together to steady the sinking ship and did a decent job. After Akeal fell, Andre Russell teed off from ball one but his stay was short-lived.

Rutherford then joined hands with the lower order to provide the finishing kick. He was unfazed by the loss of wickets at the other end and turned the heat on in the last couple of overs. 

As for the Black Caps, things changed and momentum shifted from their hands in no time as all the hard work of the bowlers went in vain as they conceded 37 runs in the last couple of overs. 

Trent Boult provided the early breakthrough in his first over as he bowled Charles to start things right for NZ, other bowlers built on that scalp and in no time Windies found themselves in a problem. 

However, the gamble to bowl their main bowlers out, leaving them to finish with Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner proved to be too costly.
