Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood lauded Adam Zampa for his exceptional performance against Namibia in the T20 World Cup 2024 match on Wednesday.

The wily leg-spinner dismantled the Namibian batting line-up with a four-wicket haul, continuing his impressive form after also taking wickets against Oman and England.

In Antigua, the Mitchell Marsh-led Australian team secured their spot in the Super 8s by bowling Namibia out for a mere 72 runs and then chasing the target inside the powerplay.

Zampa was instrumental in this win, claiming four crucial wickets and earning the Player of the Match award.

"Yeah, we certainly do within the team, for sure. We know his importance. We've seen it time and time again in whether it be one day cricket or T20 cricket, often in big tournaments and in big games as well," Josh Hazlewood said after the Namibia match.

"100 T20 wickets, first one there, played the most T20 for Australia as a bowler. So, he's ticking a lot of boxes and continues to. I think the big thing is he continues to improve all the time. He's always working on something and nailing down his lengths or whatever it is so yeah - he's a key part of our team," he added.

In the match against Namibia, Zampa broke several records. The 32-year-old became the third Australian, after Ellyse Perry and Megan Schutt, and the first in Men’s T20Is, to reach 100 wickets.

He also became the fourth-fastest spinner to achieve this milestone and surpassed Mitchell Starc to become Australia's leading wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history.

Zampa has taken eight wickets in three matches in the ongoing World Cup, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 5.33. With this tally, he stands third on the highest wicket-takers list, behind Fazalhaq Farooqi (9) and Anrich Nortje (8).
