Afghanistan's seasoned and senior most cricketer, Mohammad Nabi noticed big gains in latest revised ICC player rankings as he was crowned as no.1 T20I all-rounder after his recent strong performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan has come out as the strongest participants in Group C of the 2024 T20 World Cup as they stunned Uganda and New Zealand to remain unbeaten in the first half of the tournament.

Rashid Khan and his troops beat NZ by 84 runs courtesy of a scintillating performance from the bowlers. While Rashid and Farooqi chipped in four wickets each, senior veteran Mohammad Nabi also picked up a two-wicket haul, which added much value to his player rankings.

In the latest players rankings released by ICC, Mohammad Nabi has surpassed Wanindu Hasaranga and Marcus Stoinis to become the no.1 all-rounder in the T20 format. He is leading with 231 points with Stoinis chasing him with 225 points.

Besides Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the leading run scorer of the 2024 T20 World Cup, jumped eight places to unlock his career high 12th position in T20I batting rankings.

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan also witnessed big gains as he moved up three places to secure the third spot in the T20I bowlers rankings. His teammate Fazal Farooqi also jumped six places to replace Josh Hazlewood as the fifth best bowler in the T20 format.

That being said, Afghanistan neutralised their biggest Group C threat New Zealand with a massive victory last week and Rashid Khan is confident of leading his team to the Super 8 stage of the ongoing tournament.
