CSK Star Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery Post IPL 2024; Set For Long Layoff

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Indian cricket team all-rounder Shardul Thakur has successfully undergone ankle surgery, a procedure that will necessitate a prolonged period of recovery and rehabilitation.

Shardul Thakur reunited with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this IPL season after the auction procedure went in his favour. 

He was excited to reunite with his idol, MS Dhoni, and produce wonders for CSK.

However, tables turned once the season began as Shardul Thakur struggled with his form. In 9 games, he picked up 5 wickets with an awful 9.76 economy. 

To further add to the misery, Thakur picked up a niggle in his ankle, which worsened into a season-ending injury.

While CSK lost the playoff spot to RCB, Shardul Thakur met his ill fate as his ankle needed surgical treatment. 

The all-rounder recently shared an injury update on his social media to confirm that his surgery took place today and was successful. 

It happens to be his second foot surgery after he had undergone the same five years back in 2019.

The injury recurred during the South Africa tour earlier this year. Although he managed to make a bold return in the Ranji Trophy last season, helping Mumbai win its 42nd title, he had requested the BCCI for longer breaks between matches to ensure adequate recovery and preparation time for the players.

He will now enter a prolonged rehabilitation program designed by the NCA in Bengaluru to regain full match fitness as soon as possible. 

The recovery timeline is expected to be several months, during which Thakur will work closely with physiotherapists and trainers to ensure a full recovery.

Notably, Shardul Thakur fizzled out of the national team’s scheme of things due to intense competition. He was a regular all-rounder in Test cricket for India. But in the recent past, he has been in and out of the team. 

Regardless, the injury layoff is an opportunity for Shardul Thakur to introspect on his game and find ways to improve and eventually break into the national squad again.
