Former Sunrisers Hyderabad batter, who was released by the franchise ahead of the auctions had the dream to represent the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025 season, but the dream was crushed as the franchise decided not to bid for him.

Agarwal, the former RCB player expressed his desire to once again play for the Red Army in the upcoming season, but no IPL team raised the paddle as a disappointed Mayank Agarwal went unsold in the ongoing auction.

Why RCB didn't bid for Agarwal?

The Karnataka batter started off hid IPL career with the Bengaluru based side, but due to the poor performances in the last couple of seasons, the Bengaluru side decided not to bid for him.

Plus, Agarwal plays at the top order and RCB already have a settled opening combination with Phil Salt opening alongside Virat Kohli, and hence, there was no room for the inclusion of Agarwal in an already settled batting combination.

Before the mega auction, the talented batter spoke to ANI and revealed the team he wanted to play for. He desired to represent Kohli's team, but his dream has now been crushed.

"Playing for RCB would be lovely. Being a Bengaluru boy and having started my IPL journey with them, it would be great to be back. But I am a thorough professional, have played with a lot of teams. So I am looking forward to playing with any team. But RCB would be nice," Agarwal said.

Agarwal's IPL career and stats

Agarwal made his IPL debut in the 2011 season, and it took him a while to adjust to the conditions in the league. He scored 225 runs in the 2012 season, and it was followed by quite a few dull seasons.

However, from 2019-2021, he scored truckloads of runs for the Punjab Kings and also scored a century in the 2020 season. Last season, he scored just 64 runs in 4 matches and was released by the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
