Umar Siddique, Lake City Panthers’ opening batter, recreated Saim Ayub’s trademark no-look shot to score a maximum in the recent Pakistan Champions T20 Cup match against Engro Dolphins. Chasing a total of 161 runs set by the Dolphins, Siddique attacked early to set the stage for a remarkable chase.
In the 3rd fixture of the Pakistan Champions T20 Cup 2024, Lake City Panthers and Engro Dolphins competed against each other. The latter were asked to bat first and managed only 160 runs on the board. Those were never going to be enough on the flat surface of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Umar Siddique takes inspiration from Saim Ayub
Meanwhile, in the chase, Umar Siddique and Sharjeel Khan opened the innings for Lake City Panthers. Having lost the first game in the tournament, the Panthers avoided past mistakes to dominate. Siddique pressed 5th gear in the first over itself. He hit a boundary on the 5th ball of the first over bowled by Kashif Ali.
For the final delivery, Kashif bowled a short-length ball, and Siddique got into the position early. He recreated Saim Ayub’s trademark no-look shot and flicked a one-legged six to fine leg boundary. Umar Siqqique smartly used Kashif’s pace to just gently flick the ball that crossed the boundary rope with ease. With that, the Panthers had 15 runs on the board at the end of the first over.
Umar Siddique, meanwhile, remained unbeaten on 78 off 53 balls to wrap up a successful chase in 16 overs. Skipper Haider Ali supported the opener with a crucial 46 runs off just 28 balls before Mubasir Khan added the finishing touch of 16 runs off 6 balls.
