In a massive development during the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Australia all-rounder Josh Inglis has found a bidder. The right-handed batter, who had earlier notified the IPL about his limited availability for next season, was expected to go unsold during his bidding.
For the unversed, Inglis, who was part of Punjab Kings' successful IPL 2025 campaign, had notified the team that he would play just four games in IPL 2026 due to personal commitments and a wedding, following which the Kings released the Australian batter.
Interestingly, during the auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants entered into a bidding war for the 30-year-old. Eventually, the LSG outbid the 2016 winners and availed Inglis' services for 8.60 crores, making him the seventh most-expensive buy of IPL 2026 mini-auction.
The internet was sent into a frenzy following the purchase, as they were amused to see Inglis earning 8.60 crores for just four games. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on how much money Inglis will earn per match and what influenced LSG to go after the Australian batter despite his limited availability.
How much money will Josh Inglis earn per match?
It has been revealed that Inglis will play four matches, which means that, dividing 8.60 crores per four matches, then Inglis will earn 2.15 crores per game, which is a whopping amount.
To draw a comparison, let's look at the per-match fees of some top-rated IPL stars such as Virat Kohli, Heinrich Klaasen, and Rishabh Pant.
For IPL 2025, Virat Kohli was earning 21 crores, and if we eliminate the play-offs, then a team plays 14 games during the group stage. If we look at Virat's per-match salary, then he earns 1.5 crores. Notably, Inglis will earn 43.3% more than Virat per match.
Further, Rishabh Pant is the most expensive player in the history of IPL with a 27 crore salary. The southpaw also earns 1.9 crores. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that Inglis will earn the highest-per-match salary for IPL 2026.
Why did LSG show interest in Josh Inglis?
Notably, Inglis had a great IPL 2025, where he amassed 278 runs in 11 innings. Therefore, the LSG have acquired Inglis with a future plan. Rishabh Pant is struggling for form, and despite a disappointing IPL 2025 edition, the LSG have backed the India star for another season.
However, Lucknow would look to see Pant for one more season and in case Pant fails again, then the Super Giants might release the southpaw and actually replace him with Inglis by retaining him after IPL 2026.
