In the ongoing IPL 2026 mini-auction, Kolkata Knight Riders, who entered the event with the highest bid, expressed interest for Bangladesh talent Mustafizur Rahman and bought the left-arm seamer for a whopping 9.2 crores after an intensive bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.
For the unversed, Mustafizur Rahman entered IPL 2025 as a late-replacement to play for Delhi Capitals during the business end of the tournament. However, according to the rules, the Capitals had to release the Bangladesh talent.
Interestingly, the Capitals made the first bid for Rahman, but eventually, the Knight Riders were fixated on the idea of having Rahman for IPL 2026.
KKR's special connection with Bangladesh talents
Kolkata Knight Riders have a history of special connection with Bangladesh talent as former captain and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was part of KKR from 2011 to 2017, where he helped the side win two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. The last prominent name to feature for KKR was Litton Das.
However, for the past few years, KKR had lost interest in bringing in talents from Bangladesh, but it has been reinstated with roping in Mustafizur Rahman. Interestingly, the buy has come at a time when India's relation with Bangladesh remains restrained, due to which the Knight Riders have also faced criticism online.
Mustafizur Rahman in fine form ahead of IPL 2026
Ahead of IPL 2026, the left-arm seamer is in fine form as the 30-year-old has picked up six wickets in four innings in the ongoing ILT20 tournament. Further, Rahman also shone during Asia Cup 2025, where he took nine scalps in just 6 innings, which grabbed eyeballs and interest from a lot of IPL franchises.
Talking about Rahman's IPL stats, then the 30-year-old has 65 wickets in 60 matches, reflecting his experience in the league.
