Exciting fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who made headlines in IPL 2024 by bowling at a rapid pace for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), has earned his maiden international call-up, as India have confirmed their final 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series. The squad, of course, will be led by none other than Suryakumar Yadav.
The likes of Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, and Abhishek Sharma have all made the cut, with the series beginning on October 6 in Gwalior and to end on October 12 in Hyderabad.
No Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal In T20Is
On the other hand, neither Shubman Gill nor Yashasvi Jaiswal has been picked to shine with the bat for the Men in Blue. The duo -- projected to be India's next faces -- are currently playing the Test series against Bangladesh, and they have been rested to manage the workload.
"The Men's Selection Committee has picked India's 15-member squad for the upcoming IDFC FIRST Bank T20I series against Bangladesh. After the completion of the Test series, India will play three T20Is at Gwalior, New Delhi and Hyderabad," Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, said in a statement while confirming the squad.
Varun Chakaravarthy Returns!
Among the prolific fast bowlers, Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh will company Mayank, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi have been picked as designated spinners. Jitesh Sharma, meanwhile, will be Samson's potential wicket-keeping backup.
This will be a memorable return for Chakravarthy, who played under Gautam Gambhir for KKR in IPL 2024. Chakaravarthy last played for India way back in 2021 during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, and his impressive performance in IPL 2024 helped him to get a recall from the national team.
