In a one-sided match between the West Indies and Afghanistan, several records were broken as Rovman Powell & Co. defeated Afghanistan by a massive margin of 104 runs in match No.40 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.

Highest Total Of 2024 T20 World Cup

  • In today's match against Afghanistan, West Indies surpassed Sri Lanka's 201/6 against the Netherlands at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium and scored a total of 218/5 which is the the highest total by any team at this edition of the Men's T20 World Cup. 

Highest Individual Innings Of 2024 T20 World Cup

  • Nicholas Pooran stole the show with a sensational innings against Afghanistan. He showcased explosive power hitting as he smashed a stunning 98 runs off 53 balls, that featured six fours and eight sixes. This is recorded as the highest score by any player at this T20 World Cup, as he surpassed the unbeaten 94 USA's Aaron Jones put together against Canada in Dallas.


Highest Powerplay in Men's T20 World Cup history

  • In the match, Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan won the toss and invited WI to bat first. The West Indies batters took advantage of and broke the record for the highest score in the powerplay in the history of the T20 World Cup 2024 and made 92 runs.  Earlier the highest PowerPlay score in T20 World Cup was with Netherlands- 91/1 against Ireland in Sylhet during the 2014 edition.

  • West Indies made 218/5 against Afghanistan as they have managed to score the highest total in any edition of the T20 World Cup, going past the 205/6 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2007.

Equal Most Runs Conceded In One Over In Men's T20 World Cup History

  • In today's match Afghanistan seamer Azmatullah Omarzai faced an unwanted record as he conceded a total of 36 in one over during the Powerplay. Nicholas Pooran looked extraordinary with the bat as he smashed three sixes and a pair of fours during Omarzai's second over. This record equalled Yuvraj Singh's long-standing record for most runs in one over at a Men's T20 World Cup.

  • Nicholas Pooran struck eight sixes against Afghanistan in today's match, that took his tally to 128 in T20I cricket and past West Indies great Chris Gayle's total of 124.
