In Match No. 40 of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia, Nicholas Pooran stole the show with a sensational innings against Afghanistan. 

Pooran dazzled the crowd with a stunning 98 runs off 53 balls, that featured six fours and eight sixes, which showcased his explosive batting prowess. This was recorded as the highest score of the T20 World Cup 2024. 

However, Pooran's valiant effort to reach a century was thwarted in the final over. Facing a low full toss outside off stump, Pooran reached out and drove it to sweeper cover. He sprinted hard for a single and aimed for a second run to keep the strike. 

Azmatullah Omarzai, quick to react, fielded the ball from the deep and delivered a precise throw to the keeper's end, that hit the stumps directly. Despite Nicholas Pooran's desperate dive, the TV umpire confirmed he was short of the crease, which resulted in a run-out.

West Indies also scored 218/5 with a significant contribution from Nicholas Pooran's brilliant effort to score the highest team total of the tournament. The batters have showcased their prowess and now the bowlers will try to restrict Afghans quickly and record a massive win before the Super Eights matches.
