T20I cricket is the fastest-growing format in the world right now. The game has undergone a complete overhaul since its inception. The tempo is higher than ever, and the runs are flowing left, right and centre.
Similarly, the emerging and budding players too have adapted their game according to the pace of the T20I format. At present, several youngsters have made it big and are earning in crores because of their talent and impact in the match.
On the other hand, a few players rose to fame with a particular knock and showed promise, but failed to show consistency. Thus, this article will shed light on the three most over-hyped youngsters in T20Is.
1. Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma rose to fame after a stellar show in IPL 2024. Notably, Sharma scored 484 runs in 16 matches, which featured three fifty-plus scores. It also helped him earn his maiden India cap in July 2024.
It is worth noting that Sharma scored a century in his second match and felt like he would be a starter in the team going into the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, since then, Sharma has been backed a lot by the management, but he has failed to repay the faith shown in him.
In 12 matches, he has scored 256 runs, which includes a century against Zimbabwe and also a fifty-plus score. He averages 23.27.
2. Saim Ayub
Ayub, who made his T20I debut on March 2023. It is worth noting that since his T20I debut, Ayub is still searching for his maiden fifty. In 24 T20Is he has played, he has scored 333 runs, and his highest score is 49 and averages just 15. Ayub also has three ducks.
It is to be seen for how long will Pakistan back him as another star is in the making in the form of Shahzaib Khan, who has hit two back-to-back centuries.
3. Jake Fraser-McGurk
Another over-hyped player on the list is Jake Fraser-McGurk. The 22-year-old shone in WBBL 2023, and it led to his selection for Delhi Capitals. He shone for the Capitals and amassed 330 runs.
It led to his selection for Australia, but he failed to replicate his IPL success for Men in Yellow. For Australia, he has amassed just 113 runs in seven matches. He averages just 16.14.
