India are gearing up for the upcoming second Test against Australia in Adelaide as the hosts lead the five-match Test series 1-0. The 2nd Test will be a day-night Test played with a pink ball.
It is worth noting that Australia are yet to lose a pink-ball Test at home, and the last time India squared off against the Aussies in a pink-ball Test was in the 2020/21 tour in Adelaide on December 17, when India collapsed for the infamous 36. It was the series opener, and India faced humiliation as it was their lowest-ever Test total.
Rohit Injured During IPL 2020
To brush aside the ghosts of 36-all out, India engaged in a pink-ball warmup match against AUS PM XI, which also marked the return of Rohit Sharma for the first time since welcoming fatherhood for the second time.
It was a nightmare return as he scored just 3 runs and struggled against the pink ball. It is worth noting that Rohit missed the previous Adelaide Test. Here is why he was not a part of the playing XI.
Tough Quarantine Protocols In Australia
It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma sustained an injury following IPL 2020. He suffered a hamstring injury on October 18, and was not a part of the original squad as released by BCCI. Rohit had recovered ahead of the Australia Test series, but COVID also played a big part in his exclusion.
It is worth noting that COVID cases spiked around the Test series, and players had to undergo an intense quarantine. After reaching Australia, players had to stay in quarantine for 14 days, making it difficult for Rohit to play in the series opener.
As a result, he was eventually, ruled out of the first two Tests of the 2020/21 series.
