Less than 24 hours after the completion of the second T20I, South Africa will host Pakistan in the last of a three-match series at The Wanderers Stadium tonight. Speaking about the series, it swiftly moved out of Pakistan’s hands after they failed to defend a 207-run target at the SuperSport Park last night.
South Africa
Be it winning the toss and electing to bat first themselves at Kingsmead or the opposition winning the toss and electing to bat first on Friday, both the instances resulted in South Africa clinching high-scoring encounters by 11 runs and 7 wickets respectively.
Set to play at a venue where they’ve won 14 and lost 12 out of the 26 completed T20Is, the Proteas would be confident of converting their first bilateral series victory in over two years to their first T20I series whitewash in a three-match series in over three years.
Pakistan
Slated to play their last T20I of 2024, Pakistan would want to finish a dismal year on a high. Having won just nine out of their 27 T20Is since January, Pakistan have lost bilateral T20I series in New Zealand, England, Australia and South Africa in this calendar year.
Unfortunately for them, their past record in Johannesburg T20Is isn’t impressive either. Out of their five T20Is against the hosts here, they have just a lone victory to boast about. Coming on the back of failing to chase and defend high totals, Pakistan’s morale is bound to be low with literally no rest between two matches.

How Will The Wanderers Stadium Pitch Behave?
Played in the last 12 months, with the last two T20Is at this ground resulting in the team batting first posting mammoth innings totals including three centuries, there are no reasons why this batting paradise wouldn’t stick to its true nature.
Players To Watch Out For In SA vs PAK 3rd T20I
South Africa
Reeza Hendricks
Over a decade after his T20I debut, opening batter Reeza Hendricks, second-highest T20 run-scorer this year, finally managed to cross the coveted three-figure mark yesterday. Having done so at the age of 35, one expects him to put all this wisdom into effect now that a monkey is off his back.
Matthew Breetzke
Fourth-highest T20 run-scorer in 2024, batter Matthew Breetzke hasn’t been able to bring the same form to the highest level. At 26, Breetzke has immense to look forward to including an imminent IPL debut. Therefore, he would want to make the most of this opportunity by improving on his numbers which have seen him average 16.77 and strike at 122.76 across 10 T20I innings thus far.
George Linde
Highest wicket-taker in this series, all-rounder George Linde also has the best average and strike rate across the eight overs that he’s bowled in the first two matches.
Pakistan
Saim Ayub
Fresh off a 45-ball 87-run second-wicket partnership alongside former captain Babar Azam, opening batter Saim Ayub would have immense faith on himself after scoring a career-best 98* (57) at a strike rate of 171.92 in the second T20I.
Babar Azam
Pakistan’s highest T20I run-scorer this year, former captain Babar Azam still hasn’t nailed the strike rate game but the fact that he’s consistent makes him a player to watch out for on Saturday.
Shaheen Shah Afridi
In spite of the debates around his bowling speed, pacer Shaheen Afridi remains their highest wicket-taker in this format this year. Third-highest among all players, his 36 wickets have come at an average of 18.58, an economy rate of 8.14 and a strike rate of 13.69.
