Having picked 1,247 wickets across 860 representative matches across all forms of cricket, former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended from bowling in all tournaments organized by the ECB (England Cricket Board). The development has been finalized less than six weeks after the 37-year-old player’s bowling action was reported for the first time in what is a decorated two-decade old career now.

"Shakib is ineligible to bowl in ECB competitions until he has passed an independent re-assessment of his bowling action," the ECB said in a statement.

Shakib Al Hasan, who has been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons of late, needs to undergo an independent reassessment of his action to ensure that the extension of his bowling elbow is below the allowed 15-degree mark.

Been tested at the Loughborough University earlier this month, the left-arm bowler’s suspension officially begins from December 10. For the unversed, Shakib’s decision to restart his county career after 13 years has landed him in uncalled for trouble.

Shakib, who played a solitary match for Surrey against Somerset in Taunton three months ago, picked a total of nine wickets across the 63.2 overs that he bowled. With the bat, however, Shakib’s returns were a disappointing 12 (24) and 0 (5). Before Surrey, Shakib had picked 42 wickets across nine matches for Worcestershire between 2010-2011.

Will Shakib Al Hasan Be Allowed To Bowl In International Cricket?

Yes. Assuming he makes amends outside of the cricketing world in a bid to return to the Bangladeshi cricket team, the southpaw is free to play and bowl in international cricket. In fact, he’s also allowed to bowl in a host of other T20 competitions.

In addition to the County Championship, other ECB-run competitions which he wouldn’t be allowed to partake until he gets his action rectified are the One-Day Cup, T20 Blast and The Hundred.
