The day 1 began with light drizzle interrupting the action after just 5 overs of play, but things soon took a turn for the worse. After the rain intensified, play was halted once again after the 13th over. Despite the excellent drainage system at the Gabba, the relentless rain made it impossible for any further action to take place.
The scheduled tea break was also canceled, and no pitch inspection could be conducted, leaving the ground conditions unfit for play. Following a second delay, the scheduled lunch break was called early, but with no improvement in the weather, the entire second session was washed out.
IND vs AUS 3rd Test: Quick Recap Of Day 1
Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma had won the toss earlier and elected to bowl first, with the hope of taking advantage of the overcast conditions. However, the rain did not allow for any further play. When play was last interrupted, Australia were placed at 28/0, with both openers, Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, having just begun to settle in.
It is important to mention that, India made two notable changes to their playing XI for the third Test. Harshit Rana and R. Ashwin were replaced by Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja. On the other hand, Australia made a solitary change to their lineup, with Josh Hazlewood coming in for Scott Boland.
The weather forecast for the next two days isn't promising either. Both Day 2 and Day 3 are predicted to face high chances of rain, with a 70% likelihood of showers.
