Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction saw several stars from around the world failing to find bidders in Jeddah. While some of the names were acquired as replacement players, such as Dewald Brevis and Kyle Jamieson, others were left without a contract, waiting for their turn in another auction for the 2026 season.

Following the first season of the new cycle, a lot of names moved teams through trades even before the releases and retentions were announced. However, some teams will head into the auction to fix some of their woes with fat wallets and a big player pool to fish from.

Here's a look at the players, who faced a snub in the mega auction but could end up with contracts this season.

5. Matt Henry

Over the past 12 to 18 months, Matt Henry has proven to be one of the finest new ball bowlers across formats. He will give teams 2 or 3 overs, tight and economical spells in the powerplay and grab early wickets to put his team in the front early on in the match or an innings.

He has picked 14 wickets in 10 T20Is in 2025, while scalping 31 in 18 T20 innings at an average of 13.4 and a strike rate of 12.3. His T20 economy rate in this calendar year is just 6.53, while representing Canterbury, Welsh Fire and Somerset.

Teams that can target Henry:

  • Kolkata Knight Riders - Anrich Nortje/Spencer Johnson replacement.
  • Gujarat Titans - Gerald Coetzee replacement.
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Lungi Ngidi replacement.

4. Naveen-ul-Haq

One of Afghanistan's key facets of their famous run to the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final, Naveen-ul-Haq, is currently recovering from a shoulder injury; however, he was a part of their Asia Cup squad and is expected to be back in action well before the IPL starts. Currently, he does not find himself as a prime target for the teams, but remains one of the names to watch out for in the auction.

The likelihood of him being picked will largely depend on the timing of his name coming up and the options left after him. Nonetheless, he will provide quality in terms of pace, variations and yorkers in the death.

Teams that can target Henry:

  • Chennai Super Kings- Matheesha Pathirana replacement.
  • Gujarat Titans- Gerald Coetzee replacement/Kagiso Rabada backup.
  • Punjab Kings- Lockie Ferguson backup.
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Lungi Ngidi replacement.

3. Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh's all-time leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket, Mustafizur Rahman, is a smart operator in all phases of T20 cricket, especially on the slower surfaces, where he can use his variations effectively. He has taken 23 wickets in 19 T20Is for Bangladesh in 2025, at an impressive economy rate of 6.19, while averaging under 20 at a strike rate of 19.

Teams that can target Mustafizur:

  • Chennai Super Kings- Matheesha Pathirana replacement.
  • Rajasthan Royals- Fazalhaq Farooqi replacement.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders - Anrich Nortje/Spencer Johnson replacement.
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru - Lungi Ngidi replacement.

2. Michael Bracewell

The New Zealand all-rounder has proven to be a utility white ball player in the last couple of years and has been a central figure in their squad. He can bowl tight spells in middle-overs and provide a breakthrough or two, while finishing the innings strongly for his team at 6-7 number with the bat. In 2025, he scored 536 runs in 31 innings, striking at 146.4, while picking 23 wickets in 29 matches.

For Blackcaps, he has replicated a similar batting style, with a strike rate touching 140, while playing as the third spinner after captain Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi, only bowling around 2 overs per game, picking 7 wickets.

Teams that can target Bracewell:

  • Punjab Kings- Glenn Maxwell replacement.
  • Rajasthan Royals- Wanindu Hasaranga replacement.
  • Kolkata Knight Riders- Moeen Ali replacement.

1. Ben Duckett

Ben Duckett has shown consistency in scoring runs for England across formats at the top of the order with a considerable sample size available. In 2025, he has a strike rate of 169.60 in 7 T20Is, scoring 212 runs with two fifties to his name. He can provide teams with a blistering start, irrespective of the situations and opponents. Additionally, he will also provide a top wicketkeeping option, which solves two problems at once.

Teams that can target Duckett:

  • Kolkata Knight Riders- Quinton de Kock/Rahmanullah Gurbaz replacement.
  • Delhi Capitals- Faf du Plessis/Jake Fraser-McGurk replacement.
