Mustafizur Rahman will play for DC in IPL 2025 (Source:@AbhinavStarx/X.com)
IPL 2025 is all set to resume on May 17, and ahead of the restart, Delhi Capitals have roped in Mustafizur Rahman in place of Jake Fraser-McGurk for the remainder of the season. The selection comes as a result of a new rule in IPL where the franchises have been allowed to select temporary replacement players because of unavailabiity issues.
Delhi Capitals Targeted On Social Media
However, the move has not gone well with many netizens who are asking for boycott of Delhi Capitals. Some people on social media think that bringing in a Bangladesh player does not go well with the current geopolitical situation, referring to the narrative of Hindu people getting exploited in Mustafizur Rahman's country.
The people are also claiming that Bangladesh backed Pakistan against India during the recent tussle, and thus having a player from that country in IPL is not right. However, Fizz's participation in the league is not likely to get affected and he is all set to join the squad after the completion of two T20Is in UAE.
Mustafizur Rahman Adds Depth In DC's Bowling Attack
Mustafizur Rahman has been one of the finest white-ball bowlers for Bangladesh in the last decade, and has delivered some strong performances in IPL as well. He has played for five different franchises in the league and was brilliant for CSK last year with 14 wickets in just nine matches. He was part of DC's squad in IPL 2022 and 2023 and his presence would add more depth in their bowling attack this season.
Also, Mitchell Starc's availability is not confirmed, and if he misses out, Fizz would have to lead DC's pace attack. Delhi Capitals are still in with a chance to qualify for the playoffs, and would be hoping that Mustafizur's experience help them in the remainder of IPL 2025.
