Promising Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal had a memorable outing in the ongoing fifth Test against England in Dharamsala, as he slammed a blistering fifty to ensure a positive start for the home team.

In this process, the swashbuckling southpaw completed 700 runs in the series, becoming only the second Indian batter to do so. Thus, he overtook Virat Kohli's tally of 692 runs on the list of highest aggregators in a bilateral Test series.

  • Sunil Gavaskar- 732 runs in 9 innings vs West Indies, 1978/79

  • Virat Kohli- 692 runs in 8 innings vs Australia, 2014/15
  • Virat Kohli- 655 runs in 8 innings vs England, 2016/17

Riding on Kuldeep Yadav's excellent bowling performance, India restricted the Englishmen to a paltry 218-run total in the first innings.

Barring Zak Crawley, none of the English batters could make an impact, as they were bundled out for a sub-par score. In response, Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma bullied the visiting bowlers, safeguarding India to 135 for one in 30 overs before stumps on day 1.
