Jasprit Bumrah To Be Rested; Kuldeep Or Axar To Play For India In 2nd Test Vs Bangladesh

After thrashing Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai, the caravan shifts towards Kanpur as both India and the visiting Bangladesh side prepare for the second Test, which commences on September 27.

The first Test in Chennai sprung a surprise, when it produced a lively track, a paradise for the pacers. Chepauk is normally a spin-friendly surface, but the nature of the surface flipped completely as fast bowlers from both the teams enjoyed the outing, and so much so that the Bangladesh seamer, Hasan Mahmud even bagged a 5-wicket haul.

India to go with 3 spinners in Kanpur; Axar, Kuldeep likely to come in

As per reports, the surface at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur will be flatter in nature, and back soil will be used to keep the pitch intact. Meaning that it will be flat, but as the game progresses, the bounce will be low and surface will become slower, especially for the team chasing here.

This is a stark contrast to what the Chepauk pitch offered, where both seamer and spinners had a great outing, and it had value for everyone - batters, seamers, spinners. The slow nature of the Green Park Stadium will promt both the sides to make key changes to their playing XIs.

Interestingly, both India and Bangladesh went with two spinners in their lineup for the Chennai Test, but with the pitch likely to turn and grip in Kanpur, expect them to play an extra spinner.

For India, there is a chance that Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav could come in for an extra fast-bowler, meaning that India go in with a 3:2 combination - 3 spinners and  2 pacers.

Bumrah to be rested?

If India are to play an extra spinner, then there is a huge chance that the team management would rest Jasprit Bumrah. In India, the Rohit Sharma led team can win a Test match without Bumrah's contribution, and that is because of the domination shown by the spinners.

R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar/Kuldeep are all experienced players, and know the home conditions really well. Plus, with Border-Gavaskar series and Champions Tarophy coming up, Bumrah's workload management should be the utmost priority for the Indian team.
