When Ravi Shastri Left Embarrassed In Front Of Amrita Singh By Not Speaking A Word For 10 Minutes

An old but resurfaced anecdote taken from the dairy of the former India cricketer Ravi Shastri sheds light on his relationship with the famous Bollywood actress Amrita Singh. Amrita, who was a popular face amongst the divas of yesteryear, was in a relationship with the professional cricketer for several years before marrying Saif Ali Khan.

In fact, if the rumours are to be believed, the two were even engaged before they decided to call it quits and pursue different lives.

In a video recently found on Reddit, a much younger Ravi Shastri, during an interview, revealed one of his most embarrassing moments with his girlfriend, Amrita Singh. He explained how when he met her for the first time ever, he could not control himself and failed to speak for a straight 10 minutes.

“Jab unse pehli baar mila... yeh ek restaurant mei tha Bombay mai aur jab main pehli baar mila unse toh pehle 10 minute mein maine ek shabd bhi nahi kaha. Mujhe pata tha ki main ladkiyon se kaafi shy tha lekin itna bhi nahi pata tha ki ek din aisa ayega ki mujhe chance hi nahi milega ek shabd bhi kehne ke liye 10 minute. This was my most embarrassing moment."

 [When I first met her... That was in a restaurant in Mumbai and when I first saw her, I couldn't speak a single word for 10 minutes. I knew I was shy with the ladies but I never thought a day would come when I wouldn't be able to speak anything for 10 straight minutes. This was my most embarrassing moment.]

Why Did Ravi Shastri And Amrita Singh Break Up?

Ravi and Amrita were a sensational couple in the '80s, even featuring on the cover of Cine Blitz magazine. However, their romance faced challenges when Ravi expressed that he didn’t want Amrita to work after their marriage. 

He candidly admitted to being "chauvinistic," while Amrita firmly stated, “I’m currently too invested in my career to give it up. But in a few years, I would be ready to embrace the role of a full-time wife and mother.” After their breakup, Amrita married Saif Ali Khan, while India's batting all-rounder tied the knot with Ritu in 1990.
