England are under the pump in the third and final Test match against Sri Lanka at the Kennington Oval with the visitors looking well-set for a successful run-chase. They started day 4 with nine wickets in hand and just 125 needed to win and the duo of Nissanka and Kusal Mendis were going about their business comfortably in the morning session.

England needed a moment of magic from somewhere and Shoaib Bahsir with a brilliant catch in the 20th over gave England a glimmer of hope. It was a short delivery angling into Kusal Mendis by Gus Atkinson, the right-handed batter went for the pull shot, but did not get the middle of his blade.

He got the top edge and the ball went left of the fine leg fielder where Bashir showed tremendous commitment and skills. He kept his eye on the ball as he moved swiftly to his left and grabbed it with both his hands with a dive just ahead of the boundary line.

Pathum Nissanka Stamps Authority With A Century

The wicket of Kusal Mendis was a crucial one for England, but Nissanka is still going strong and at the time of writing, he is building another decent partnership with Angelo Matthews. Sri Lanka are just 40 runs away from their target while Nissanka has smashed his second Test century in just 107 balls to put Sri Lanka on the verge of a famous win.

The young batter was also among the runs in the first innings when he smashed 64 off just 51 balls, and Nissanka's performance in this Test would surely go down as one of the finest by a Lankan batter on English soil.
