IND vs BAN - 5 Players Who Missed Out From India Squad Despite Doing Well In Duleep Trophy 2024

The Indian squad for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh. This match will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. A look at the squad and the players' form in the ongoing edition of the Duleep Trophy gives us the idea that the management prioritised the players' performances in these matches. 

However, in order to include a few of the team's regulars, certain players missed out despite doing well in the Duleep Trophy. 

Here are five players who could have been a part of the India squad for the 1st Test against Bangladesh based on their performance in the Duleep Trophy 2024. 

5. Harshit Rana

The KKR pacer impressed everyone with his show in the recently concluded IPL 2024. Harshit Rana's exploits in the tournament earned him a place in India's limited-overs team. The way he performed in IPL 2024, he could have been in the scheme of things for the red-ball format if he could have shown that he could translate his performance into the longest format.

Rana did that with his show in the recently concluded India D vs India C match in Duleep Trophy 2024. Playing for India D, the Indian pacer picked up four wickets for 33 runs in his 13 overs during the first innings of the game. Although Rana impressed with the ball, his team, India C, lost the game by four wickets. 

4. Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar was seen playing for India B, under the leadership of Abhimanyu Easwaran, in the Duleep Trophy 2024. The Indian pacers picked up three wickets in the first innings and played a major role in dismissing India A for a moderate total of 231 runs. 

India A were chasing 274 in the first innings. India B's bowling line-up got through the batting line-up of the Shubman Gill team, but KL Rahul was standing between them and a win. Mukesh Kumar picked up Rahul's prized wicket and sealed the game for India B. He also picked up Tanush Kotian's wicket during the innings. 

Having test experience and having five wickets in the Duleep Trophy match, Mukesh Kumar could have been a good selection for the first match of the Bangladesh series.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been on the fringe of the Indian scheme of things for quite some time now. However, the CSK skipper is finding it difficult to make his way into the main squad. Ruturaj is currently leading the India C team in the Duleep Trophy 2024. His team recently faced India D in the Duleep Trophy. 

Gaikwad failed to score runs on a challenging batting track in the first innings. But while chasing 233 runs in the fourth innings, Gaikwad set the tone for his team with a steady and brisk knock of 46 runs from 49 deliveries. Based on the foundation laid by their skipper, India C managed to chase down the target, losing six wickets in 61 overs.

2. Shreyas Iyer

The exclusion of Shreyas Iyer from the Test squad shocked many fans and followers, especially after the knock Iyer played in the India C vs India D match of the Duleep Trophy 2024. 

On a track that did not favour the batters, Iyer scored a quick 54 off 44 balls and helped his team post a total of 236 in their second innings. Even though India D did not win the match, the knock played by Iyer as a captain and under pressure deserves credit. 

1.Musheer Ahmed Khan

Musheer Khan, brother of Sarfaraz Khan, was the talk during the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. The young Indian batter played a brilliant knock of 181 off 373 deliveries in the India B vs India A match. Musheer's knock set up the match for India B's win. His patience, resilience, and dynamism could have added a different layer to India's team for the Bangladesh Test if he had been included in the squad.
