Gujarat Titans (GT) have been nothing short of sensational since they joined the IPL party. They won the title in their debut season in 2022, and they came close again in 2023, finishing as runners-up.
After a dismal 2024 season, they’re heading into the 2025 auction with big plans and some serious cash. Gujarat Titans have kept five players from last season’s squad and has an RTM card to use. With the auction happening in Jeddah soon, all eyes are on GT to see who they might bring back.
Here is a look at the list of GT's retained players –
Rashid Khan for INR 18 Cr
Shubman Gill for INR 16.5 Cr
Sai Sudharsan INR 8.5 Cr
Rahul Tewatia for INR 4 Cr
Shahrukh Khan for INR 4 Cr
These five guys make up a solid core, giving GT a strong foundation. Now, with a purse of INR 69 crore and one RTM card left, GT will eye a few players from their IPL 2024 campaign to use the RTM. Here are three players GT might target -
Will GT Use the RTM for Mohammed Shami?
Mohammed Shami is a true warrior on the field. He’s got 127 wickets from 110 IPL games. His average is 26.9, and his economy rate is 8.43. Shami even won the Purple Cap in 2022 – a major milestone for him and GT.
The veteran pacer swings the ball like magic and brings tons of experience. He missed the 2024 season due to an injury, which left a big gap in GT’s bowling lineup. Without him, GT couldn’t quite make it to the playoffs. If GT is serious about boosting their pace attack, using the RTM on Shami makes sense. He’s a proven match-winner and could very well be the piece GT needs to complete their bowling puzzle.
Will GT Use The RTM for Mohit Sharma?
Now, Mohit Sharma’s IPL story is a stuff of dreams. He was away from the IPL scene for years, but GT brought him back in 2023, and he rose to the occasion and deliver. The Haryana based quick took 27 wickets in 14 games that season and added another 13 wickets in 12 games in 2024. Mohit’s got experience, he’s got variety, and he’s cool as ice under pressure.
Meanwhile, thanks to a new rule, he qualifies as an “uncapped” player since he hasn’t played for India or held a BCCI central contract in the last five years. GT can snag him and he can once again lead their bowling in the death overs with his effective slower balls.
Will GT Use the RTM for David Miller?
David Miller has been with GT since 2022, and he’s been their main man in the middle order. Over his IPL career, he’s piled up 2924 runs in 130 matches, with an average of 36.55 and a strike rate of 139.24. In 2022, he was on fire, scoring 481 runs at an average of 68.71. The last couple of seasons? Not as explosive, but he’s still a reliable finisher who knows how to handle pressure.
Miller’s ability to score quick runs at the death makes him a gem. Plus, he’s been with GT long enough to understand the team’s vibe. Using the RTM on Miller could keep GT’s batting strong, especially when they need those clutch runs in the last few overs.
