MI vs RCB Overseas Recruits: Utility and Depth

Batters

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have picked up just two batters- Ryle Rickelton and Bevon Jacobs. Rickelton and impressed in SA20 and also shone in the recently concluded T20I series against India. However, Jacobs is more likely a rotational player.

RCB

Talking about the Challengers, they have bought Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell. Notably, Salt has been a great addition to the squad as he did well for KKR in their title winning season. Meanwhile, Jacob is also an emerging talent and he can prove to be a surprise package in IPL 2025.

Conclusion

Looking at the batters of the two teams, it is fair to say that RCB have got better overseas batters' list.

All-rounders

Mumbai Indians

Talking about the all-rounders, Mumbai Indians have two all-rounders- Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner. Notably, Will Jacks' inclusion was a great addition as he was expected to be retained by RCB, but surprisingly, Mumbai Indians got him for a steal.

Meanwhile, Santner is also a great addition to the team and expected to act as the second spinner for MI at Wankhede.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

For RCB, they roped in Tim David, Liam Livingstone, and Romario Shepard as the three all-rounders. Livingstone is in the form of his life, but Tim David is struggling to score runs. While, Romario also shone for MI in IPL 2024 both with the bat and the ball.

Conclusion

Both teams are neck to neck in the all-rounders' category, but Mumbai Indians have an edge over here as they have much more quality than RCB in this particular category.

Bowlers

Mumbai Indians

MI have bought Trent Boult, Allah Ghazanfar, Reece Topley, Lizaad Williams. They have heavily invested in their fast-bowling options and relied on overseas talent for that. It is a homecoming for Boult and will pair up with Bumrah.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

For RCB, they have Lungi Ngidi, Nuwan Thusara, and Josh Hazlewood. The Aussie seamer is likely to lead the bowling attack, but questions would be on Ngidi and Thusara, who are struggling for form.

Conclusion

In the bowling, Mumbai Indians are the obvious choice as they have three quality seamers and a mystery spinner as their overseas prospect.

MI vs RCB Overseas Recruits: Who Did Better?

Comparing the overseas talent of both teams, RCB have a better batting overseas talent, but Mumbai have taken the edge in the all-rounders and bowlers section. Thus, MI are the winners on the auction table.

For RCB, it looks like they missed out on a lot of foreign talent and missed a few tricks in the past two days.
