Mumbai Indians had a quiet auction as per their lofty standards, but they picked up some brilliant players in the IPL mega auction, and one of them was the Kiwi star, Trent Boult. He had previously played for MI till 2021, but then was signed by Rajasthan ahead of the 2022 season.

With Boult's departure, Bumrah and Mumbai Indians' fortunes went down as the team hasn't won any IPL trophies since the 2020 season. While the team always boasted a strong batting lineup, it was Bumrah and Boult, who, with their brilliant bowling won multiple titles for their side.

Ever since Boult left for Rajasthan Royals, MI have tried replacing him with other options, but they have all failed. Hence, we understand that both the seamers will once again hold the key for Mumbai in the upcoming season.

Trent Boult only played two seasons for MI and was their superstar bowler, picking up 38 wickets in just 29 matches. His ability to pick wickets at the top was instrumental in Mumbai securing back-to-back titles in 2019, 2020. Plus, he was equally efficient in the death overs and combined with Bumrah, they tormented the opposition batters.

During the two seasons playing beside Boult, Bumrah scalped a combined 46 wickets as both the pacers were at their absolute best and it was the main reason why they won the IPL titles back to back.

Boult And Bumrah Form A Lethal Bowling Pair

Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult perfectly compliment each other. While Boult brings left-arm swing to the table, Bumrah is hailed for his ability to operate effectively across three phases, courtesy of his swing, seam, pace and hard-length bowling. Therefore, MI have found a lethal bowling pair that will help them dismantle their opponents in the IPL 2025. 

MI Failed To Replace Boult

After Boult's departure, MI tried plethora of bowling options, but none work for them. The likes of Daniel Sams, Luke Wood, Tymal Mills, all came to Mumbai and all failed.

In fact, the Mumbai side also went after Jofra Archer in 2023, but it was a disaster as the English pacer picked up just 2 wickets in the 5 matches and went at an economy of almost 10.

Conclusion

Mumbai Indians have a superstar team, but the return of Boult makes them lethal. His bowling partnership alongside Bumrah will be a key factor if MI are to win their sixth IPL title.
