Chennai Super Kings have only one overseas batter and that is Devon Conway. The Kiwi batters is an integral part of the team and will be opeining the innings for the team. As far as utility is concerned, CSK have got a perfect overseas batter in this case.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have recrutied two overseas batters - Ryan Rickelton and Bevon Jacobs. While Ryan Rickelton looks like a starter, Bevon Jacobs seems like a back-up player. So, the Mumbai Indians have covered both bases in this case.

Conclusion

While CSK have the better utility overseas batter, Mumbai Indians have gone for a more complete approach in this case. While the utility factor goes to CSK, the depth factor is won by MI.

All-rounders

Chennai Super Kings

The three all-rounders of CSK are Sam Curran, Jamie Overton and Rachin Ravindra. Out of this at least Sam Curran looks like a starter. Overton and Ravindra will be more of backups. Looking at players to turn in terms of need, CSK seem to have covers both the batting and bowling bases.

The two all-rounder recruitments of Mumbai Indians are - Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner. Both these two players look like starters for the team. So, in terms of utility Mumbai Indians seems to have done a great job in their all-rounder overseas recruits.

Conclusion

As far as depth and players to turn to in case of demand CSK have the better recruits. However, when it comes to recruiting players as per the demands of the playing XI and best fits, the Mumbai Indians seem to have done a better job.

Bowlers

Chennai Super Kings

The three overseas recruits in the bowling department of CSK are - Matheesha Pathirana, Noor Ahmad and Nathan Ellis. Among these three players at least Pathiran and Ahmad look like starters. Nathan Ellis could be a back up for Matheesha Pathirana. The fact that they have quality Indian spinners, covers up for the back up of Noor Ahmad.

Mumbai Indians

The four overseas recruits in the bowling department of the Mumbai Indians are - Trent Boult, Allah Ghazanfar, Reece Topley, Lizaad Williams. This looks like a very well-rounder approach by the MI. In fact with their batting slots already filled by Indian players, they needed overseas bowlers to have quality and depth in the department. In this case, they have covered both utility picks and back-ups.

Conclusion

In the case of the overseas bowling recruitments Mumbai Indians look more sorted. They have added depth and also filled up their required spots in this case.

MI vs CSK Overseas Recruits: Who Did Better?

Both the teams did well as far as their recruitments on the basis of needs are concerned. If we purely go by the quality of players in this department, then CSK seems to have done better, but then again, they have spent more money than MI in the case of their overseas recruitments.

When we take the utility and depth of their overseas recruitments, both teams seem to have faired very nicely. However, when it comes to covering your bases compared to the average spent per player, MI seems to have done better.
