Matches are coming thick and fast in the Kerala Cricket League 2024, and the competition is heating up. The players in the tournament are looking to make a case for themselves for the upcoming mega-auction for IPL 2025.
In the 14th match of the tournament, the Trivandrum Royals and the Aries Kollam Sailors faced each other at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The young left-arm pacer Vinil TS of the Trivandrum Royals left the cricket fans and experts in awe with a stunning delivery during the game.
Trivandrum Royals post a moderate target on the board
The Royals batted first in the match and posted 136/8 in their 20 overs. Vishnu Raj (32 off 27), Govind Pai (33 off 32) and Akarsh AK (25 off 17) led the batting effort of the team. Sharafuddeen NM was the star with the ball for the Sailors as he finished the match with three wickets for 19 runs in his three overs.
It was a moderate target, and the Sailors would have hoped for a steady start to achieve it. However, Vinil TS, a 24-year-old young left-arm pacer, gave them an early jolt. In the first over, Vinil picked up the wicket of Abhishek Nair, who had started the tournament nicely with the bat.
Vinil TS rocks the Sailors early
The delivery by Vinil was a dream one for a left-arm seamer. He bowled it around the good length at the off and middle stump line and swung it in. Nair, looking to drive the ball through the line, was beaten by the late inward movement. The ball snuck in through the gap between the bat and the pad and crashed into the middle stump, ending Nair's stay in the middle.
The early shock did put the Sailors in a spot of trouble, but their skipper, Sachin Baby, stood up for his team and played a match-winning knock. Baby scored 51 runs off 30 deliveries, guiding his team to a six-wicket win in a rain-interrupted match by the DLS method.
Shadows of Zaheer Khan
The delivery reminded many fans of Indian legend, Zaheer Khan. The veteran pacer was known for his magic with the ball in the hand. Bringing the ball back in to a right hander and beating him with the movement was something Zaheer was adept in.
