Dewald Brevis has made a rollicking comeback in the IPL after getting a wild-card entry in place of Gurjapneet Singh. Since his joining, he has added more intent in the conservative batting line-up of CSK and now looks set to get retained for the next season.
DC's Early Success Created Complacency In Management
However, before Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals had a chance to bag Dewald Brevis. Just before the start of IPL 2025, Harry Brook pulled out of IPL 2025, leaving a big hole in the DC batting line-up. However, their management refrained from naming any replacement and the decision was delayed further after DC got success in the initial half of the tournament.
However, gaps in their batting line-up started getting exposed once they started losing the games. They needed a solid overseas batter, and Brevis with the range he has and the form he was before the season, could have been a great choice. It was too late for them till then though as he was already in the CSK camp. Thus, DC had to go with a young Afghan batter, Sediqullah Atal, who has some international experience, but has no IPL experience and is more raw compared to Brevis who has played in different leagues in the last 2-3 years.
Similarities Between Harry Brook And Dewald Brevis
- Flexibility Of Batting Order
- Aggressive Batter
- Young Player - Ability To Serve Franchise For Long Time
A little more proactive approach by DC management would have helped them grab services of Brevis from the start of the tournament when Brook decided to back off. Both the players have plenty of similarities, and DC who have struggled due to over reliance on Indian batting talent, might have been in better position.

Also, Dewald Brevis was in great form before IPL 2025. He batted in different positions in SA20 2024-25 and scored with consistency. He notched up 291 runs at an average of 48.50 and strike-rate of 184.17. Brevis also scored runs in List A and first-class cricket, and could have served Delhi Capitals for a long time, something which he might do now for CSK.
