In an interesting revelation about Rohit Sharma's retirement, Sky Sports has reported that Rohit Sharma wanted to retire midway during the England series. However, BCCI wanted consistency throughout the series and offered Hitman to play just as a player, which he denied, and eventually announced his retirement.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 8 through his official Instagram handle. Rohit Sharma's retirement came after two poor series against New Zealand and Australia. He dropped himself in the final Test against against Australia, but made it clear that he is not planning to retire, thus, his decision on May 8 came as a surprise to many.
Now, according to the details revealed by Sky Sports, it seems that Rohit wanted to continue as captain at least halfway in the England series, but BCCI was keen to start afresh in the new WTC cycle. Earlier, reports also claimed that Virat Kohli was forced to retire from Test cricket, but the authenticity of those claims is still not clear.
Shubman Gill Likely To Lead India In Test Cricket
Shubman Gill is now considered as the front-runner to lead India in Test cricket. However, according to SKY Sports, some BCCI officials have doubt over Gill's credentials as a batter in Test cricket. Thus, Rishabh Pant who is a proven performer in the longest format can also take the role.
Jasprit Bumrah who was impressive as captain on the England tour might not take the role due to the fitness issues as a fast bowler. India are scheduled to play five Test matches with the opening game in Headingley on June 20. The final Test will be at the Kia Oval while Edgbaston, Lord's and Trafford will host remaining Tests.
