Teenage Australian sensation, Sam Konstas had one of the most memorable Test debut on Thursday as the opener made most of the opportunity he received at the MCG. The opener looked at his imperial best and slammed a quick-fire 60 off 65 balls.
He owned Jasprit Bumrah with his fiery batting and also rattled India great, Virat Kohli, as the two had an altercation mid-way through his innings. Konstas, with his flamboyant style gives the impression that he is more like David Warner. The two have striking similarities and here are 3 reasons as to why the youngster resembles Warner in several ways.
3) Similar path to international cricket
Both Konstas and Warner have had a similar journey to the international cricket. Konstas only played 11 first-class games before making his Test debut, Meanwhile, Warner had not even played a single red-ball cricket before his Australian Test call-up.
Similar to Warner, Konstas was touted to be a future Australian great by the former cricketers and both the stylish players had little to no experience of facing international bowlers as they both made their debuts at a young age.
2) Aggressive, flamboyant batting style like Warner
In the 200s, Australia had Matthew Hayden as the aggressive opener, and he was replaced by David Warner in the 2010s. Post Warner's retirement, Australia tried Nathan McSweeney, but he failed to deliver the goods.
In a bold move, the selectors brought in Konstas for the Boxing-Day Test and the move paid dividend as he showed his aggressive side and just like Warner, wasn't shying away from taking on the opposition's best bowler. He looked at his aggressive best and this rattled the Indian seamers.
This was similar to how Warner used to dominate the opposition and they used to feel helpless sometimes.
1) Aggressive, on your face attitude
A 19-year-old Konstas going toe-to-toe against a cricketing legend like Virat Kohli reminded fans of David Warner. In his younger days, Warner was aggressive in his behaviour and never shied away from having a fight with the opposition players.
When Kohli had a shoulder shrug with him, any other batter would have ignored it, but Konstas gave it back to him and it was similar to how Warner with his no fuss attitude would behave in his teenage days.
