The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended in a draw after 25 days of intense cricket, with India staging a gritty fightback with the ball in the final Test at The Oval. While bowlers were at the centre of attention among cricket experts and fans, the batters also earned praise right from the start of the series.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, India's star opener, has delivered some standout performances since his debut in 2023. However, in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he struggled with consistency. On the other hand, England’s left-handed opener Ben Duckett, who made headlines for his on-field banter with Jaiswal in this series, produced almost identical returns when their performances are measured in terms of runs.

Hence, with both players having the same calibre and potential, let's take a detailed look at their numbers to see who performed better in the series.

Duckett vs Jaiswal: How Did They Perform With The Bat?

Yashasvi Jaiswal had a poor start in his first innings at Headingley, where he fell flat for just 4 runs. However, he scripted a comeback in his second innings with a gritty 101. The Edgbaston Test saw him score 115 runs across his two innings. The Lord's Test was underwhelming for him with subpar scores.

In the 4th Test, Jaiswal managed to get 58 runs in his second innings and in the final Oval Test, his heroic 118 kind of saved India from having a massive trail ahead of England's batting. Across his 10 innings, Jaiswal bagged 411 runs at an average of 41.10.

For Duckett, the optics of scores are better and a bit more consistent. Duckett made a statement knock in his opening innings at Headingley with a 149. Though this is his only century in this series, Duckett replied with figures of 94, 54, 43, 62, except for a duck at Edgbaston. The southpaw impressed with an average of 51.33 while piling 462 runs from his 9 innings.

With both left-hand openers' stats briefed, let's take a look at who performed better with the bat in the series and why.

Jaiswal Or Duckett Who Performed Better?

Between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Duckett, it was Duckett who stood out as the more consistent and influential batter throughout the series. While Jaiswal had flashes of brilliance, Duckett maintained a steady presence across most innings.

Duckett, who is known to play unorthodox shots, much like Rishabh Pant, having been familiar with the pitches produced more consistent results with a 25% better average than Jaiswal, as shown in the chart above, and also at a better strike rate despite missing an inning.

Jaiswal, on the other hand, had a more erratic run. Despite scoring two centuries and a few fighting knocks, he often struggled to maintain rhythm between innings, with his Test average also dipping. Hence, it can be said that Ben Duckett was the better performer when compared to Jaiswal in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
