Mohammed Siraj was the pillar of the Indian cricket team as he stood with valour and courage to bowl 185 relentless overs in this series while claiming 23 wickets. While the bowler showed immense stamina on the ground without complaint, he also delivered a special message for his teammate after the win.
Siraj admitted after the match that he was missing Jasprit Bumrah after his heroic spell that helped India finish the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
Mohammed Siraj Opens Up After Oval Test
Speaking to reporters as seen in a BCCI.tv video, Siraj was found overwhelmed with emotions. When asked about Jasprit Bumrah's presence in the series, as Bumrah was released from the squad on day 2 of the Oval Test, Mohammed Siraj admitted missing the Indian quick.
"I am missing Jassi bhai (Jasprit Bumrah) kyuki wo rehte to alag presence rehta unka,"(I am missing Jassi Bhai because it would have felt different if he were present here), Siraj said.
While speaking of the reality-defying spell on the Final day of the Oval Test, Siraj admitted that it was only his belief that made him stand strong to defend 35 runs alongside Prasidh Krishna. Siraj was also animated while discussing his costly catch drop of Harry Brook on Day 4.
"To be honest jo mere emotions hai wo mai describe nahi kar sakta. Mai soch raha tha ki mai kaise wo catch chor diya. Agar mai wo catch le leta to aj dopeher ko hum relax karte par uparwale ne kuch socha hoga" (To be honest, I can’t describe what I was feeling. I kept thinking about how I dropped that catch. If I had taken it, we could have relaxed this afternoon. But maybe God had something else in mind) Siraj said with folded hands.
Ending the series as the highest wicket-taker with Josh Tongue seconding him with 19, Siraj's grit was one to watch out for. In the series, Siraj broke many records while maintaining an economy rate of 4.02 and also boasting a best bowling figure of 6/70.
Meanwhile, Bumrah's contribution was also not to be ignored as he scalped 14 wickets playing only 3 Tests and maintained an economy rate of 3.04 with a best bowling figure of 5/74.
