The IPL 2025 is less than three months away, and the preparations are in full swing for the prestigious twenty-over event. Meanwhile, before the IPL, the focus is also on the Champions Trophy that is taking place in February 2025.
Now, since a lot of cricket is going to take place right before the IPL, the franchises are concerned over players' fitness and their workload management. Given, how the past seasons have gone by, few injuries and replacements can be expected. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on three unsold stars that RCB can turn to in case of injuries.
1. Daryl Mitchell
It can be a homecoming for New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who was released from the squad ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Notably, Mitchell was bought for a whopping 14 crores.
The Kiwi had a decent outing as he amassed 318 runs in 13 matches, which featured two fifty-plus scores. Mitchell faced criticism for his inconsistency, but still managed to have a good season.
Thus, the five-time winners would have Mitchell as the backup option in case of any injury.
2. Nandre Burger
Another shocking player that went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction was Nandre Burger. The left-arm seamer wreaked havoc in IPL 2024 when he featured for the Royals. He took just seven wickets in six matches but was crucial at the start with the new ball alongside Trent Boult.
Thus, in case CSK's Matheesha Pathirana gets injured, then they would be short of a serious pace bowler, and Burger can be a solid option on tracks outside of Chepauk.
3. Cooper Connolly
Another player with great potential who went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction was Cooper Connolly. The 21-year-old, dubbed as 'Australian Jadeja', has been shining at the ongoing BBL season, and the IPL franchises would be regretting letting this talent go.
It is worth noting that Connolly is the 2nd leading run-getter in BBL 2024-25, as he has 272 runs in seven matches, which featured two fifty-plus scores. Even with the ball, he has three wickets to his name in seven matches, and the Super Kings can look up to him as a good all-round replacement.
