In a shocking development, it has come to light that India and RCB star will miss the IPL 2025 playoffs (if the team qualifies), and instead will play in the English domestic competition to prepare himself for the gruelling 5-match Test series vs England.

The County Championship is the premium red-ball domestic tournament in England and Kohli is eyeing to play for one of the teams in order to get used to the English conditions. The sudden decision came up as the batter had a stinker of a Test series Vs Australia where he was consistently troubled on deliveries pitched outside the off.

As a result, the former India captain is thinking about playing in the County Championship to acclimatize to the English conditions. If Kohli indeed decides to skip IPL playoffs, several County teams will be after his services. Here are 3 sides where Kohli perfectly fits in.

3) Surrey

In 2018, ahead of the England tour, Virat Kohli signed a deal with Surrey to play 6 matches for them in the County Championship, however, that never happened as Kohli suffered from an injury and the team management protected him ahead of thr English summer.

Fast forward to 7 years later and Kohli's Test career is sinking and the Indian batter could once again turn upto Surrey. The County plays their home matches at the Oval, and one of the Test matches Vs England will be played there. Kohli could get used to the conditions and Surrey could be one of the options for him.

2) Yorkshire

Sachin Tendulkar was the first Indian to have played in English County and his team was Yorkshire. Kohli, could follow his footsteps and play for the same team. The team plays its home matches at Headingley, Leeds, and it is one of the toughest venues as a batter.

If Kohli wants to challenge himself as a red-ball player, there is no better place than Yorkshire, since the playing conditions at their home venue could give him loads of confidence for the England series.

1) Sussex

Kohli's long-time teammate, Cheteshwar Pujara plays for Sussex and has become one of their best batters in the last couple of seasons. The Indian batter has piled truckloads of runs and perhaps Kohli should go to Sussex and get some much-needed runs on the board.

It is a team which plays its home games in Hove and it is a challenging venue for batters which will certainly test Kohli's skills against the moving ball.
