Another Big Bash League (BBL) match and another flop show by the Melbourne Renegades opener, Jake Fraser-McGurk against the Melbourne Stars at the Docklands Stadium. The opener has been horrendous form and it continued in the match against the arch-rivals.

The Renegades needed 166 to win the clash and for that the team needed Fraser-McGurk to fire all guns blazing. However, just like the previous matches, he failed yet again to leave his side in a spot of bother. His form is not only a concern for the Renegades, but for Delhi Capitals as well, who bought him in the IPL mega auction.

The team from Delhi did well to release him, but they shouldn't have bought him back in the side ahead of next season and here's why.

3) Form not on his side since last IPL

After a successful IPL 2024 stint with the Capitals, Fraser-McGurk got a place in the Australian white-ball team, but the opener failed to live up to the hype created. A lot was expected of him, but the talented batter has failed his transition to the international level and his form was always a worrying sign during the IPL mega auction days.

Despite his poor run of form, DC showed faith in him and bough the opener by using the RTM card. However, his form since last IPL will give DC plenty of headaches.

2) Game-play exposed during ongoing BBL

In the ongoing BBL tournament, teams have a simple game plan against him. If you don't allow him to score runs in the initial few balls, the Aussie batter gets frustrated and throws his wicket away by playing a rash shot.

Several IPL franchises have been keeping an eye on Fraser-McGurk and by now they would have devised a plan on how to counter him in the upcoming season. The opener is the perfect example that when everything goes according to his plan, he reaps the reward, but when things go haywire, he tends to fail.

1) Struggles on tricky surfaces

This season, Fraser-McGurk has struggled on tricky surfaces and hasn't done anything significant. In IPL, apart from the Arun Jaitley Stadium and a couple of more stadiums, the Aussie batter will get tricky surfaces which could ruin his game play as he'll find it hard to play his natural aggressive game.

He is an excellent batter when the ball isn't moving, but when the surface tends to behave differently he struggled to score.
