IPL 2025 Start Date Confirmed; Tournament Set To Commence From March 21

The Indian Premier League (IPL) dates have been released and the tournament will commence from March 21 and the finale will be played on May 25. Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI Vice-President confirmed the update. The tournament will host 74 matches as the event will go on for two months.

The BCCI meeting took place on Sunday and IPL dates, Champions Trophy squads were the main agenda of the meeting and also the clarity regarding the Women’s Premier League WPL venues are nearly finalised. Earlier, Shukla mentioned March 23 as the IPL start date, but he later confirmed it to be March 21.

Apart from the discussion on IPL dates and WPL venues, key decisions were made regarding the appointment of new treasurer and secretary.

Last season, the IPL commenced on March 22, and this year, the event will take place on March 21, however, the schedule of the entire event is yet to be released, and the dates could be out sooner, rather than later.

Rewinding IPL 2025 mega auction

A total of 182 players were sold during the IPL mega auction which took place in November. The event went on for two days with several marquee players highlighting the event.

Indian stars hogged the limelight as keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant was sold for INR 27 crore to Lucknow Super Giants and Shreyas Iyer fetched big money and was sold to Punjab Kings. All eyes was on KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals opened the cheque book and bought him for 14 crores.

While some players went for big money, the other marquee names like David Warner and Prithvi Shaw went unsold, which raised quite a few eyebrows amongst the fans.
