3 Reasons Why Starc Suffered More Than 50% Dip In IPL Price As DC Buy Aussie For 11.75 Cr In IPL Auction

In the ongoing IPL 2025 mega-auction, Delhi Capitals have bought Australian speedster Mitchell Starc For 11.75 crores. It is fair to call it a steal as Starc was the highest-paid player in IPL history in IPL 2024.

Notably, during IPL 2024 auction, KKR had splurged 24.75 crores for Starc, making him the highest-paid player in IPL history, until Rishabh Pant broke that feat in IPL 2025 mega auction. While, DC are happy with the steal, it is a sign of worry for Starc, as he has suffered a 52.5% dip in his auction price.

This article will analyse the three reasons why Starc has suffered a massive dip in his price.

1. Poor Performance In IPL 2024

Starc failed to justify his price tag for KKR in IPL 2024 as he looked a pale shadow of his prime version. While, KKR won their third title, Starc had an underwhelming performance.

In 14 games, he took 17 wickets in 14 games and had a poor economy of 10.61, one of the worst in the season. Further, he was whacked all across the park even by the tail-enders that has led to franchises being careful in how much they spend for Starc.

2. Wayward Line And Length

Getting hitting is one, but not adapting to the surface is another thing. While, Starc was hit across the Eden Gardens, he failed to pick the line and length, something Harshit Rana picked up quickly and you do not expect such things from an experienced bowler like Starc.

3. Wrong Side Of 30s And Fitness Concerns

Starc is 34-years-old and is continiously playing international cricket. Thus, fitness is one concern as he is nearing towards the wrong side of 30s. Thus, a franchise does not want to repeat the same mistake as KKR did last year as they also had to drop him for a few games to manage his workload.

Thus, DC's 11.75 crores buy for Mitchell Starc will be considered as a steal going into IPL 2025.
