In a recent news, Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history during the IPL 2025 mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday. Starting with a base price of ₹2 crore, Shreyas sparked a fierce bidding war between Punjab PBKS and DC. After intense competition, Punjab Kings outbid Delhi Capitals to sign Shreyas for an astounding ₹26.75 crore. 

Shreyas Iyer’s auction price surpassed the ₹24.75 crore record set by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc during the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai. He was acquired by KKR for ₹24.75 crore. 

Before signing Shreyas, PBKS exercised their Right to Match (RTM) card to retain left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh for the IPL 2025 season. Arshdeep, one of the most consistent performers in the league, was the first player to go under the hammer in Jeddah.
