Arshdeep Singh kickstarted the IPL 2025 mega auction as he was the first player to undergo the hammer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is worth noting that six teams bid for Arshdeep and eventually, Punjab Kings used their Right To Match (RTM) to avail Singh's services for the upcoming season.
Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad had bought Singh for 15.75 crores. Meanwhile, the auctioneer Mallika Sagar approached Kings to use the RTM and they did raise the paddle. However, according to new rules, SRH raised the bid to 18 crores, but Punjab matched that bid and retained Arshdeep's services.
Meanwhile, this article will shed light on three reasons why Punjab Kings matched the SRH bid to desperately have Arshdeep in their squad.
1..Big Purse Value
It is worth noting that Punjab entered the auction with the highest purse value of 110.50 crores. Thus, they can afford to splurge big on the the left-arm seamer. Further, he is used to play for the Kings in the past.
2. Doing Well On The International Stage
Notably, in the last one year, Arshdeep has been a consistent performer for India on the biggest stages. He has taken 36 wickets in 2024, the second most across the world. Also, he is the second leading-wicket taker for India in T20Is just behind Yuzvendra Chahal.
3. Rare Quality Left Arm-Seamer
Arshdeep moved to Punjab in 2022 and in those three years, he has done exceptionally well for the Kings and was their main bowler in the last season. It is worth noting that left-arm seamers are a rare commodity and Arshdeep, is argubally, the best among them.
Further, Arshdeep has the quality to swing the ball at the start of the innings and can also bowl well at the death overs.
