There is no doubt that Jake Fraser-McGurk is the next big thing in world cricket. The explosive batter has all the tools to succeed at the highest-level and has already proven his worth in the franchise cricket.

When David Warner retired from T20Is, a void was filled at the top of the order, and pundits wanted Australia to try out something different and bring Fraser-McGurk in the scheme of things. The Aussie did just that and handed him his T20I debut in the series against Scotland.

However, that experiment failed as Fraser-McGurk scored two ducks in the series, and was eventually dropped from the first T20I against the English team, a couple of days earlier. Things changed as he was brought in as Marsh's replacement in the second game and he made an instant impact, scoring a brilliant fifty against a quality English attack.

So, now the question arises, is Jake Fraser-McGurk better suited at number 3? Here are the 3 key reasons why we believe so.

Unlike Marsh, he can handle the spin well

This is a major problem for the Australian side. They don't have a batter who can handle the spin well. Starting from Mitch Marsh at number 3, to Marcus Stoinis and other batters, everyone struggles against quality spin.

Marsh was even dismissed by a spinner in the first T20I against England, as he failed to read the variation. Fraser-McGurk can be someone who can dominate the spinners right from the word go, and the Aussies need such batter in the T20I format.

Marsh has the experience of opening before

Marsh is a proven international player and unlike Fraser-McGurk, has the experience of opening in T20Is. In the past he has excelled in the role, and can be the destructor which Australia need at the top alongside Travis Head.

Moreover, Fraser-McGurk hasn't done anything special at the top of the order, and he is more likely to get exposed against quality bowling attacks.

Fraser-McGurk has a monster mentality

Just like Travis Head, Fraser-McGurk has clear thoughts in his mind - see the ball and hit it. Doubts don't creep in and Australia need someone in the middle-order like him. While the likes of Tim David, Josh Inglis are supreme players in their own way, but they tend to slow down if a wicket or two falls.

That's not the case with McGurk. He will play his own game and the scoring rate won't be affected in the middle-overs, especially against the spinners. We have seen it often in the IPL, that when the situaton became tougher, it was always Fraser-McGurk who resurrected the Delhi Capitals with his aggressive batting.
