West Indies had a torrid time on the field as Pakistan handed them a 13-run defeat, clinching the T20I series by 2-1. After posting a competitive total of 189 runs, Pakistan restricted West Indies to 176 runs, sealing the match as well as the series. Apart from West Indies' underwhelming outing, what grabbed the attention was the bizarre dismissal of Roston Chase in the second half.
Roston Chase's Retire Out Adds To Drama In PAK vs WI 3rd T20I
The incident occurred just before the 18th over of West Indies' innings. After Alick Athanaze's dismissal, in-form batter Roston Chase had joined Sherfane Rutherford in the middle. While the southpaw brought up a scintillating half-century, Chase struggled to get going against Pakistan's rampaging bowling attack.
The visitors managed to keep him quiet during his brief 12-ball outing which witnessed only 15 runs off his bat. He could hit only two boundaries, failing to send a single ball out of the park.
His undehwhelming performance led to an exponential rise in the required run rate, with the game steadily slipping away from the hosts' hands. Therefore, he sacrificed his wicket with three overs left, retiring out himself at the end of the 17th over. In this process, he became the first-ever player from a full-member team to get retired out in T20 Internationals.
Chase's Sacrifice Goes In Vain As WI Lose 3rd T20I
Chase's departure brought Jason Holder into the middle. However, the veteran all-rounder was castled by Sufiyan Muqeem for a silver duck. Although Gudakesh Motie played a quick-fire cameo of 10 runs, Pakistan held their nerves and pulled off a narrow win.
This victory helped the Men in Green bag the series and get much-needed momentum before the ODI series.
