Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth tore into MS Dhoni’s recent struggles with the bat this IPL 2025 season. Srikkanth, who has previously served as an ambassador for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, even urged the legendary wicketkeeper-batter to consider retirement from IPL cricket.
It is worth noting that under the leadership of Dhoni, CSK is poised to finish IPL 2025 at the bottom of the points table. They also lost their recent match against Rajasthan Royals in Delhi by six wickets.
Srikkanth explodes over MS Dhoni
Taking to his YouTube channel, India’s 1983 World Cup winning cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth said that fans should not expect much from MS Dhoni since the legendary CSK stumper is ageing. However, Srikkanth also criticized Dhoni over his constant struggles with the bat, urging the 43-year-old to take retirement.
He said:
“MS Dhoni is also ageing, you can’t expect too much from him. But at the same time, you can’t keep coming and messing it up. If you are not able to do it, say you’re not able to do it and walk away.”
MS Dhoni, batting at number eight against Rajasthan Royals, failed to lift CSK’s scoring rate at the death as he managed just 16 runs from 17 balls. As it turned out, CSK lost the match by six wickets and with nearly three overs to spare despite carting 187-8 from 20 overs upfront.
MS Dhoni-led CSK will now face Gujarat Titans in their final league match of the IPL 2025 season. The match will be hosted by Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, May 25 and the action will commence from 3:30 PM IST onwards.
