Arshdeep Singh has played his bit in taking Punjab Kings to the playoffs of IPL 2025, picking up 16 wickets along the way from 12 matches at an impressive average of 21.93. Yet to make his Test debut, there have been calls among fans and experts for the speedster’s inclusion in the Indian team for next month’s hectic tour of England.

Even Punjab Kings bowling coach and former Australian cricketer James Hopes is of the opinion that Arshdeep should tour England as his bowling is “perfectly suited for English conditions”.

Arshdeep should tour England, says PBKS coach

While interacting with the Times of India, Punjab Kings bowling coach James Hopes expressed his admirations for India’s white-ball expert Arshdeep Singh. Hopes claimed that Arshdeep is a good fit for England tour next month as he can swing the ball both ways. He said:

“He's perfectly suited for English conditions. He can swing the ball both ways, he can bowl reverse swing if required. He can bowl around the wicket as a left-armer seamer and still take it away from the right-hander.”

James Hopes also added that Arshdeep Singh is always open to learning new skills and expanding his bowling gallery. He added:

“Arshdeep is highly skilled and very coachable. He's open to just trying subtle, new things. You find sometimes that guys with high skill, like he has, can be very happy in the spot they're in. But he's always wanting to expand and keeps asking, 'What if I hold the ball like this, is it a bit different?' And just trying to change subtle things, because he's been around a while now and people know what he's going to do.”

Arshdeep Singh, a veteran of 63 T20Is for Team India, has claimed 99 wickets and was part of India’s 2025 T20 World Cup winning team in the West Indies last year. He has also taken 14 additional wickets in his nine ODI appearances.

As of now, it remains to be seen if the BCCI selection committee will include Arshdeep Singh in India’s five-match tour of England. The speedster is currently plying his trade for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season.
