St Kitts and Nevis Patriots overcame Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in a tight last-ball thriller in the opening match of the CPL 2024 season at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Here’s the timeline of how ABF vs SKN panned out in Antigua:

ABF vs SKN Highlights: Fakhar Zaman Leads Falcons Recovery

After being invited to bat first, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons opener Teddy Bishop was cleaned up through a searing yorker by Anrich Nortje for just a single. Jolted at 7-1 in two overs, Fakhar Zaman led Falcons’ counterattacking recovery via elegant cuts and pulls alongside number three Kofi James.

Fakhar himself belted five boundaries and two sixes to make 43 for the Falcons from just 32 deliveries. His 60-run partnership with James (22 off 24) was curtailed by Tabraiz Shamsi at 67-2 as the Falcons reached 71-2 at the halfway stage of the innings.

Following the dismissal of Fakhar Zaman, number three Kofi James and wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings also fell in quick succession as the Falcons slipped to 102-4 in 14 overs. With six overs left in the innings, Jewel Andrew at number five marched on and went on to list a dazzling 30-ball half-century and shared an unbroken 61-run partnership with Fabian Allen (24* off 17 balls).

ABF vs SKN Highlights: Fletcher, Lewis Sets Up Chase With Blazing Start

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots openers Evin Lewis and Andre Fletcher got off to a flier in their chase of 164. Fletcher, in particular, raged with four boundaries and a six to make a swift 16-ball 25 within the opening powerplay. After he was out stumped by Sam Billings and Imad Wasim at 37-1, Lewis scored a cracking 29 and shared another assaultive partnership with Kyle Mayers for the second wicket.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, Shamar Springer soon tilted the tide back in Falcons favor by dismissing Lewis and Tristan Stubbs in a space of six deliveries. Springer’s double-wicket strike ensured the Patriots reached 79-3 off their first 10 overs.

ABF vs SKN Highlights: Patriots Seal Tense Last-Ball Win

Odean Smith at number five pounded 27 handy runs in the middle-order to lead Patriots recovery with Kyle Mayers. A couple of overs after taking the Patriots past the 100-run mark, Shamar Springer struck back with two more wickets, including that of well-set Smith and Rilee Rossouw in two deliveries at 111-5. Mayers (39 off 24) also walked back to the sheds at 133-6 after mistiming one off Mohammad Amir.

Left to fend 31 runs off the remaining four overs, Dominic Drakes (17 off 16) led his team’s rearguard fightback by scoring some tense runs with the tail. Roshon Primus picked up two wickets in the final over as the Patriots crashed to 159-9 with three balls remaining.

South African-based number 10 Anrich Nortje and number 11 Tabraiz Shamsi eventually came up clutch to steer the Patriots to a topsy-turvy one-wicket win off the last ball of the match.
