'I Never Imagined' - Nitish Rana Welcomes 'Idol' Gautam Gambhir In KKR For IPL 2024

Gautam Gambhir is set to return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp, albeit in a different role ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The former Indian cricketer, who previously led the franchise to two IPL titles during his playing days, will be taking up the mentor’s role in his second KKR stint.

Gambhir received an overwhelming welcome from the entire KKR fan community, with social media buzzing and a palpable surge of excitement and anticipation marking his return to the fold.

KKR batsman Nitish Rana was one of the many to celebrate Gambhir’s return to the franchise, as the 29-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) and penned a heartfelt note for the legendary cricketer.


Rana realizes dream of having Gambhir on his side

Nitish Rana expressed his admirations for ‘idol’ Gautam Gambhir upon the latter’s return to the KKR set-up as team’s mentor. In a heartfelt social media post, Rana acknowledged Gambhir’s past KKR credentials as a captain, considering he led the franchise to two IPL titles during his playing days.

The 29-year-old also added that he cannot wait to learn and grow under Gambhir’s guidance. He wrote:

"As a kid watching cricket, I never imagined I'd one day share the field and wear the same colors as my idol, Gautam Gambhir bhai. Now, having him as our mentor at KKRiders is nothing short of a dream. His leadership led to glory, and I can't wait to learn and grow under his guidance. Here's to the beginning of an incredible journey!"


Gautam Gambhir led the KKR franchise between 2011 and 2017 before drafting back to his home team Delhi Capitals. Notably, Gambhir’s leadership stint at KKR was succeeded by Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana in 2018.

Gambhir himself has previously mentored the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise in IPL 2022 and IPL 2023 seasons. Under his guidance, the KL Rahul-led side secured a top four finish on both occasions.
